The faculty of the various departments are encouraged to do research and have been very active with their individual research. Organization National and International Conferences at the University Campus in the various departments  and participation of faculty and students in conferences in other parts of the country and abroad keeps the researchers well informed with the current development of their field of specialization. The areas of specialization in the different departments under the various schools are given in the following pages.

School of Basic Sciences
Department of Chemistry: Chemical sensors and Biosensors for detecting purity of herbal and ayurvedic drugs, monitoring uranium and thorium in the environment; Valorization of products of fruits and vegetables, chiral synthesis using Michael addition reaction, natural dyes from vegetable waste, anti-malarial chemicals, synthesis and application of formazon and tetrazolium salts and biological compounds for wound healing.

School of Life Sciences

Department of Biotechnology: Biodiversity and molecular taxonomy, biology of arbuscular mycorrhiza, microbial secondary metabolites, endophytes and bioactive compounds, herbal biotechnology and tissue culture, immunomodulation in animals against pathogenic bacteria using herbal extracts, molecular parasitology, aflatoxin contamination in food and water, anti-diabetic drug development from plants, bioremediation using fungi and plant microbe interactions, heat shock proteins, DNA-fingerprinting of extremophiles, fungal biotechnoogy.

Department of Microbiology: Microbial diversity, industrially important enzymes, bio-bleaching in paper industry, cellulase production from coir waste, production of xylitol by microbial action, recombinant baculovirus, typing of virus and environmental monitoring of diseases, extraction of chitin.

Department of Biochemistry: Biochemical effects of plant based drugs on animal models for diseases like cancer, obeisity, diabetes etc.,

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Department of Pharmaceutics: Development and characterization of nanoparticles of ketoconazole for drug delivery, development of sparfloxacin solid dispersion tablets, flurbiprofen transdermal patches, mucoadhesive tablets of atenelol and matrix tablets of Ambroxol hydrochloride. Formulation and evaluation/characterization of losartan potassium, tramadol hydrochloride matrix tablets, glipizide microspheres and floating tablets mefanamic acid.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry: Synthesis of Novel Therapeutic activities, extraction and isolation of Phytoconstituents from natural plants for treatment of Cancer, Arthritis, Epilepsy etc., QSAR studies, Drug designing of lead molecules, Analytical Method Development and research on combinatorial chemistry.

Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis: Development of bio-analytical and analytical methods for the excipients and for the combined dosage form using different techniques like HPLC, HPTLC, UV spectroscopy etc

Department of Biotechnology: Cardioprotective Effect of plant extracts on Cyclophosphamide Provoked Oxidative Myocardial Injury, Evaluation of Antioxidant Potential of herbal extracts against adjuvant induced Arthritis, Ameliorative effectr of plant leaf extract on Cyclophosphamide Induced Oxidative Hepatic Injury, Mitigation of Azathioprine Induced Oxidative Hepatic Injury by the Flavonoid Quercetin, influence of Alpha Lipoic Acid on antioxidant status in D-Galactosamine induced hepatic injury, anti-inflammatory activity of red algae and concepts of finding newer antimicrobial agents and antidiabetic activity of red algae against streptozotocin induced diabetes (all in animal models rats/wister rats).

Department of Pharmacology: Screening of Medicinal plants for various therapeutic potential including analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-arthritic, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, hypocholesteremic, hepatoprotective, wound healing, neuroprotective and anti-oxidant activities, Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic interaction studies of various medicinal plants, Toxicity studies of few siddha medicine, role of AT2 blocker and CNS active drugs in mouse models of stroke.

Department of Pharmacognosy: Isolation and pharmacological Screening of Indian Medicinal plants based on folklore claim, Standardization of Indian system of Medicine and isolation of phytoconstituents from herbs and its spectroscopic characterization.
